|---|---|
| Pronunciation | (sin-GO-nee-um)(po-do-FI-lum) |
| Plant Type | Indoor Foliage, Perennial Tender, Vines, Tropical herbaceous Vines |
| Hardiness Zone | 9-11 |
| Sunlight | Prefers moderate to bright light for best color, but will tolerate low. It can burn or fade in high light. |
| Moisture | Grows best in evenly moist conditions but tolerates occasional dry periods. Prefers average to higher household humidity. |
| Soil & Site | Average house plant growing media. |
| Temperature | average house to warm |
| Flowers | Plants rarely flower in cultivation. |
| Leaves | The leaves are arrowhead-shaped. The pinkish color will vary with the amount of light. |
| Stems | In its native habitat, this plant is a climbing vine. As the vines grow longer, the distance between the nodes seems to increase. Also, in lower light, the internodes will stretch. |
| Dimensions | Initially, they will stay quite busy, but as they develop, they will turn into a vine. |
| Maintenance | Syngoniums need to be pruned regularly to keep them in shape. If they get too shaggy, cut the plant back. I have cut them back to 2-4" stubs, and they will re-branch, regrowing at a moderate rate. Usually grown in a pot with a trellis or some other supporting structure. It can also be used in a hanging basket. |
| Propagation | Easy to root from a tip cutting or a cutting of one leaf with a section of the stem. On a growing plant, roots will develop at the nodes. |
| Native Site | It originates in Central and South America, where it grows mainly in tropical and subtropical forests, creeping along the ground or climbing trees. |
| Author's Notes | I have observed the plants a few times, and they were labeled as Neon Pink, but the description of this plant doesn't seem to match the plants in the conservatory. It could be Robusta Pink or another cultivar. So I just listed it as Pink Cultivar. |
