| Maintenance | Only occasional re-potting is needed when the plants grow too large. They have very strong rhizomes and can crack almost any pot. |
| Propagation | The easiest and most common method of propagating plants is by division. Remove the plant from its pot and divide it into sections. Many plants can also be propagated from partial leaf cuttings, which involves cutting a leaf into sections and rooting each piece. However, a drawback of this method is that if the plant is a sport (a genetic variation), it may revert to its parent species. For example, I have successfully rooted Futura and Golden Snake plants from partial leaf cuttings, but they both reverted to their parent species, S. trifasciata. Conversely, I have propagated S. trifasciata and S. cylindrica from partial leaf cuttings, and they both have successfully produced plants true to the original varieties. |
| Cultivar Origin | Black Gold Sansevieria is a cultivar of Snake Plant (Sansevieria trifasciata). Snake Plant leaves have a dark green color marked by irregular, lighter green, horizontal bands. Whereas Black Gold is a solid dark color. |
