| Author's Notes | I make compost from all the plants, weeds, and shrubs that are maintained in the gardens. The plant material is piled, then laid in windrows and chopped with a lawn tractor. It is then piled in 10-12-inch layers and mixed with a small amount of soil to serve as an activator. It is turned once or twice. This process is done twice, once in late September and again in early November. We use it in our outdoor plant mix, which is 3 parts compost, 1/2 part soil, and 1 part rice hulls. We pot up over 60-70 containers. Sizes range from 6 inches to over 24 inches |
