Flowers
small, pale yellow, Dandelion type, flowering throughout the summer.
Fruit
Seeds are achenes, form a parachute of fine hair (pappus) for wind dissemination
Leaves
green, weak prickly spines, alternate, basal leaves deeply cut into 1-3 lobes; get progressively smaller and less spined up the stem, bleeds a white milky sap when cut

bleeds a white sap when broken
Roots
white tap root and horizontal roots. When pulled from the ground has a distinct odor.
Dimensions
Reaches 1-3 feet and spreads and spreads by horizontal roots
Maintenance
A weed that can be difficult to rid from a garden. Any piece of the root left in the soil will reproduce more plants.

An annual plant reproducing from seeds.
Native Site
Western Asia, Northern Africa and Europe, found throughout most of USA
Misc Facts
Has been used as food for rabbits giving it many common names such as Hare's Thistle, Hare's Lettuce. Also eaten by pigs, goats and sheep. Horses will not touch it?? Asper means rough, referring to the spiny leaves.
