---|---|
Plant Type | All Plants, Perennials Hardy |
Hardiness Zone | 3-9 |
Sunlight | prefers full sun, will tolerate some shade. I have seen this growing in shady spots but it gets leggy and flower production is less. |
Moisture | average |
Soil & Site | average |
Temperature | spurium |
Flowers | flowers: red, 5 petals, 5 sepals, produced beginning to mid July for 2-3 weeks and found on 2-4 inch densely packed cymes. |
Leaves | I have seen the foliage color from dark mahogany red to yellows green tinged with red, I have a feeling the plant reseeds itself and reverts back to a green variety. Leaves and stems are succulent |
Dimensions | 1-2 inches high foliage, up to 4 with flowers, mat forming, space 12 inches or a bit more |
Maintenance | As a ground cover plant it is hard to weed around. The stems intertwine, they are easily broken and clumps of the plant are pulled out as the weeds are pulled.(take the clump and jam it back into the soil, it quickly regrows. Remove green stems. |
Propagation | very easy from cuttings or division |
Misc Facts | The genus name is derived from the Latin word "sedo" which means to sit. The common name Stone Crop refers to the plants ability to grow on stony ledges. |
Author's Notes | A planting of Voodoo revert back to all green for me. Probably from reseeding. |
