Seeds that have two dormancy factors that
prevent germination. These factors are usually a hard seed coat and
a dormant embryo. In order to get them to germinate they must be subjected
to a warm moist period and than a cold moist stratification period.
Many types of ephemeral wild flowers seeds ripen in the late spring
early summer and lay in the soil during periods of warm/moist. Than
they are subjected to cold temperatures and moist conditions during
the winter. The germination takes place in the spring. |
