Many plants produce roots off of their
stems to help them cling or climb. Corn will produce a group of roots
off the base of the stem to provide a bigger base of support for the
plant. Mangrove tree's produce prop roots off of their stems to help
support the plant, growing in the very swampy conditions.
The adventitous roots are forming along the stem
of Canary Ivy (Hedera canariensis)
